Swayamkrushi is a voluntary organization located in Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is dedicated to the rehabilitation and integration of adults with developmental disabilities. Established in 1991, by Smt. Manjula Kalyan, a trained professional from University of Pittsburgh, with a cause to allay the qualms of parents about the well being of their disabled children, after their death.
The only institution of its kind in India to spearhead the movement to bring about the awareness, and inclusion of adults with developmental challenges in the community, Swayamkrushi has come a long way in changing lives of the mentally disabled.
The delivery model aims at building and developing a symbiotic relationship and integration of the disabled individuals with their immediate community. This has enormously helped in bridging the existing social and emotional chasms. The concept of Group Homes and mutual rehabilitation of destitute women through associated projects like Saranya has far been one of its kinds in India . |
